Welcome, or not, I slipped into your blue shadow
and admired your broken eyes, 
the verdigris leaves crowding out honeyed light.

Until old papers, mildewed, moldy, and moth-loved
skitter across the floor to announce velvet dusk.

And the soggy wood laughs beneath my cowardly feet.

I abandon your bones, still dressed with all your stories,
not for the first time - not for the last.
